First trade edition, preceded only by a scarce privately printed edition in 1914. ***Very good in blue cloth with titles in red to spine and front cover. Untrimmed page edges as called for. No inscriptions. ***In a very good example of the scarce original printed dustwrapper, browned and faded on the spine. With tiny chips and closed tears to extremities, which are creased and rubbed. Small mark on front panel. With Collins' New Fiction titles for Autumn 1923 on the back panel. ***'The Soul of Kol Nikon is the fantasy of a boy in a Scandinavian village, who from his birth is treated as a pariah because his mother declares that he is a Changeling. He himself grows up under the same belief, and the story, treated in the vein of folklore, leaves it an open question whether there is some truth in it, or whether it is the result of public opinion upon a distorted imagination. The theme of the story is Kol Nikon's passionate endeavour to find, or to steal, a soul for himself, in the hope of converting his mother's hate into love, and during his search his life is a mixture of beauty and tragedy'. [Quote taken from the front flap of the book] ***A short fantasy novel. Rare in the dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 5205
