Il racconto � tradotto da Natalia Ginzburg, che in quegli anni affiancava Pavese e Vittorini alle redini della collana Narratori Contemporanei; risvolto di copertina di Giacomo Debenedetti. Il libro venne pubblicato durante la �cattivit� romana di Einaudi, mentre la sede torinese della casa editrice era commissariata ed affidata a Paolo Zappa, e come gli altri titoli del periodo ha stampata in bianco e nero e illustrata da Domenico Purificato.
