First edition of this Gilded-Age manual for the recently "much improved" game of three-ball billiards. "The great superiority of the three-ball billiards must be sufficiently evident to all who have studied and practiced the modern game," writes Garnier in his preface for this nifty 19th century game guide. Each page contains a vivid color diagram of a particular practice shot, with descriptive instructions. 6.5'' x 8.25''. Original brown cloth, stamped with black, green, red and silver blliiard design to front board with blind-stamped ruling, lettered in gilt to front board and spine, rebacked with original spine laid down. 109 pages. Previous owner signature to front fly leaf. Some wear to boards. Tiny closed tear to front fly leaf, a bit of cracking to front hinge (still sound). Bright.
