About this Item

Description:

np (94pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. "Scenery For Cinema" is the catalogue issued in conjunction with the Baltimore Museum of Art's prescient wartime exhibition devoted to the roles of Production Design, Art Direction, and Costume Design in American filmmaking. Copiously illustrated with Studio stills and production materials, it covers both the history and practical aspects of these subjects in what we believe is the first Museum survey devoted to these Hollywood trades. A most presentable example of this uncommon document showing some mild edgewear, chipping, and creasing to the delicate printed paper-over-cardboard covers. It's highly fragile, age-toned clear celluloid comb-binding is remarkably complete and intact. Additionally laid in is a mimeographed flyer for the Baltimore Museum of Art Theater's brief 1942 run of performances of Allen Boretz and John Murray's Broadway farce "Room Service," which became the basis of the iconic Marx Brothers 1938 film.
