A superb Golden Age detective novel featuring Hercule Poirot and widely regarded as one of Agatha Christie's finest achievements. Published in 1940 at the height of Christie's creative powers, Sad Cypress combines a compelling murder mystery with a moving story of jealousy, love and betrayal. The novel opens with Elinor Carlisle standing trial for murder, seemingly condemned by overwhelming circumstantial evidence. Yet Hercule Poirot suspects that appearances may be deceiving and undertakes one of his most intricate investigations. The novel remains one of Christie's most admired works and is frequently cited amongst the finest examples of her psychological crime writing. - FIRST EDITION & FIRST PRINTING - The copyright page bears the date 1940 with no further printings or impressions stated. - CONDITION AND DESCRIPTION: A striking facsimile dust jacket, reproduced from a genuine First Edition, First Printing example, greatly enhances the appearance of the book. The jacket retains the original published price of 8/3 net and is housed within a removable archival sleeve for future protection. - Original orange cloth boards. The boards show general wear, fraying to the cloth, rubbing and soiling consistent with age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Despite the wear, the book remains firmly bound. - All 252 pages are present together with the four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. - Pages are age-toned throughout with occasional soiling, as commonly encountered in books of this period. - Overall, a respectable and increasingly difficult-to-find First Edition of one of Agatha Christie's most highly regarded mysteries. - Bonus: LAST WILL & TESTAMENT; Included is a separate A4 report-style booklet comprising five pages relating to Agatha Christie's Last Will and Testament, together with her picture to the front cover. The document includes examples of Christie's signature, including her full married name: Agatha Mary Clarissa Mallowan and was executed on 22 October 1975, only a few months before her death on 12 January 1976. - An interesting accompanying item for admirers and collectors of Agatha Christie. - E N D - RAPID DISPATCH. - Thanks for your interest. The items will be posted in 1 to 2 days of purchase.…
