Item description from seller

A b & w matt photographic composite postcard, showing Taugwalder sitting next to his ice axe and rope, the summits of Huascaran shown in the background, postally unused, slightly marked. On 2 September, 1908, Annie S. Peck and her two Swiss guides, Gabriel zum Taugwald and Rudolf Taugwalder, made the first ascent of Huarascan in the Peruvian Andes. On their descent, the party were trapped in the highest camp for two days, and Taugwalder suffered severe frotstbite, losing the fingers on his left hand and part of his right foot. The present postard shows Taugwalder in the aftermath of the climb, with his left hand in clear view and his right foot bared to reveal his injuries.
