The volume collates: A-F4 Attributed to Sir Kenelm Digby, though the Bodleian Library catalogue tentatively ascribes authorship to the Earl of Clarendon--cf. Madan. Annotations on Thomason copy: "By Sr. Ken: Digby"; "Aprill: 24th.". Wing D1447, Thomason, E.522[21] The Huston Copy #35 in the Rubin / Huston Bibliography. With the Huston Bookplate #2. Of the Royall Apologie Attributed by Wing to Kenelm Digby it was probably written by his kinsman and close friend, George Digby, the second Earl of Bristol, soldier, statesman and one of the great orators of the day. The Royall Apologie was written in response to A Declaration of the Commons of England , the resolution to have no further communications with Charles. This was in essence the overthrow of the English monarchy and a much quoted piece. Bound in modern Black Half Morocco with cloth boards. Binding with minor rubbing. Internally the leaves with some minor marks and foxing. Manuscript shelf label mounted in corner of title. The volume measures 20.3 x 15.4 x .8 cm. Each leaf measures 197 x 149 mm.
