Item description from seller

Fine fresh apparently unused copy in fine, price clipped dust jacket. Hardcover. First printing/edition. 310 pages, with bibliography and index. Illustrations, including political cartoons. Theodore Roosevelt has served in the New York State Assembly, became New York City Police Commissioner in 1895, Assistant Secretary of The Navy at the outbreak of the Spanish American War, and led the charge up San Juan Hill in 1998. Upon his return from the war, the republican party threw their support behind him and he was elected Governor of New York. This is the first work to fully explore that part of TR's career, the hard-fought, uphill campaign that included "whistle-stop" tours that displayed for the first time an extraordinary power to srit audiences.
