1963 reprint of the 1956 first edition of Roman Poetry & Prose, edited by E. C. Kennedy and published by Cambridge University Press, presenting selections from Caesar, Virgil, Livy, and Ovid with concise introductions, notes, and a full vocabulary. The verso lists the edition chronology - First Edition 1956; Reprinted 1959; Reprinted 1963 - confirming this copy as the third printing of the original text. Bound in Cambridge’s characteristic mustard cloth, the volume shows light rubbing, minor edge-wear, and some age toning to the boards and endpapers, with previous owner names and a small, penciled price at the front. The text block is clean and legible throughout, with no markings in the Latin or English notes. Includes the frontispiece map of Italy and the complete vocabulary section (pp. 170–230). A dependable example of a widely used mid-century Cambridge classical text, suitable for collectors of Latin pedagogy, academic libraries, or those studying the reception of Roman literature in twentieth-century British scholarship. E. C. Kennedy, M.A., served as Assistant Master at Malvern College and contributed significantly to mid-twentieth century classical education through a series of clear, practical Latin readers. His editions emphasized accessibility, sound grammatical guidance, and a balanced selection of canonical Roman authors. Kennedy’s work remains appreciated for preserving the rigor of traditional Latin instruction while presenting texts in a format suited to schoolroom use.…
