A rare and very attractive set of the first four books in the Barney series, sometimes called the 'R' series. These books are all in the correct first edition state, with only the third's jacket not being contemporaneous. Please note: the fourth book is not pictured here. The Rockingdown Mystery (1949) First in the series with original dust jacket, book is near fine with only isolated foxing/spotting to the text block edges. Bookseller's discreet sticker to front paste down. Jacket is fine with only a little wear to extremities; very clean and bright. The Rilloby Fair Mystery (1950)Second book in this series. Book is in near fine condition with attractive blue tint to top edge. Internals are very clean with only a gift dedication to front end paper. Original jacket is very good with only some wear to extremities. Price-clipped. The Ring O'Bells Mystery (1951) Third book in the series. Book is good with bumping to spine top and bottom and covers a little worn. Previous owner's name and address to front end paper. Internals are clean and tidy. Jacket is not original and is generally worn but intact. (not pictured) The Rubadub Mystery (1952) Fourth book in the series. Book is good with pages evidently read - a little worn in places and a couple of small tears. Some foxing to front edge but nice red stain to top edge. No marks or inscriptions. Original jacket is very good, little cracked in places, but unclipped, showing 5/- net. Pictures of this book on request. .…

Terms of sale
Welcome to Really Good Books
We specialise in what you see - first printings of first editions in modern fiction. Our collectable range of vintage children's books is also recommended.
You'll hopefully forgive the hyperbole in our name - but we believe our books warrant it. They are works of art in themselves, come from impeccable backgrounds, and are well loved artefacts in our custody.
We are based proudly in Stockport, UK - the new Berlin according to some - and it's an exciting time to run a business in the Sunday Times 'best place to live' in the northwest of England.
Although we are very much an online business, we do partner in pop-up shops, appearances and themed events. Please get in touch if you think we could collaborate.
Our Promise
The no-quibble guarantee means that if, once a book is delivered, you do not agree with our description then we will happily refund purchase price and return postage.
Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Really Good Books, Stockport, United Kingdom, +44 07474-459935, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
Shipping terms
We hope you find the online purchasing process smooth. If you would like to pay in another way - e.g. by bank transfer or paying by card over the telephone - please get in touch by phone or email.
Free standard shipping within the UK for all orders. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR INTERNATIONAL (EX-UK) SHIPPING RATES
In the UK, we normally use Royal Mail.
We deliberately recycle packaging. Your books will be given much care and attention before dispatch and will be sent in pre-used materials.
As a matter of course, all our books are cleaned sensitively, researched, catalogued, photographed and thus treated with the respect a vintage artefact deserves. We then re-cover most of our books in new, industry standard protective wrappers. These are inert, acid-free, and will not harm the book or dust jacket. We don't do this only if there is already a clean and serviceable wrapper on the book, or if to remove a previous covering would cause damage.
