Paris 2016. 1 Volume/1. -- Comme Neuf -- Hardback / Reliure éditeur cartonnée illustrée. 29 x 25 cm ( 770 gr ). ------- 87 pages.************** "" Born October 22, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas, USA, Robert Rauschenberg argued that art and life were inextricably linked. Over the course of his sixty-year career, Rauschenberg s work was inspired by wide-ranging experiences, collaborations, and a spirit of experimentation with new materials and techniques. Although he demurred from affiliations with any particular movement, he has been called a forerunner of essentially every postwar artistic development since Abstract Expressionism. In addition to his own artmaking practice, Rauschenberg became a spokesperson for artists and the creative community at large. In September 1970, he founded Change, Inc., a non-profit organization that helped artists with emergency expenses and from 1984 91, he personally funded the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange (ROCI,). For this extensive touring program and exhibition, Rauschenberg traveled to ten countries outside of the United States initiating creative collaborations in an effort to spark cross-cultural dialogue through art. Rauschenberg died on May 12, 2008 in his studio on Captiva Island, Florida, USA. His artistic legacy and his lifelong commitment to collaboration with performers, artisans, and engineers worldwide was recognized long before his death and lives on through his expansive artistic philosophy to this day. Consisting of canvases painted and silkscreened with photographs collected in magazines or taken by himself, Salvage recalls the topics and compositions of his iconic Silkscreen Paintings from the early 1960s. Although they use commercial printing processes and focus on mass-media imagery, they remain painterly and multipart in organization; the motifs of bicycles, cars, farm animals and architecture reflect Rauschenberg's renewed bond to photography in the early 1980s. With essays by art historian Hervé Vanel and curator Mark Ormond, the catalog stresses the interdisciplinarity of Rauschenberg's practice while presenting a full account of this important series.
