LOROS Bookshop opened in the autumn of 1999, one of some 30 or so shops now, within Leicestershire and Rutland, all providing vital income for our wonderful Hospice, which gives much needed palliative care to our patients.
We cater to book lovers of all ages and interests: locals, students, children, teachers, collectors, dealers. Our shop offers a wide variety of used books. The collection is being constantly updated with book donations given daily by our kind and appreciative supporters. The shop is carefully organised by subject area, and a subject finder and a diagram of the shop layout are provided to direct customers to the specific categories that are of interest to them.
The shop is broadly zoned into five main categories, subdivided into the usual sub-categories: Collectables, Leisure Interest (Cookery, Gardening, Military History, Local History, Travel etc.,) Fiction (General, Literary, Crime/ Thriller, Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror) Academic (History, Humanities, Medical, Business, Sciences, Poetry, Classics etc.,) and Childrens. We have a bookcase of Graphic Novels ranging from £1 to more collectable editions.
At the back of the shop is a small but unique and wonderful Children's 'Garden' bookroom, it is astro-turfed, with tree shaped bookshelves, and toadstool seats, holding a decent selection of modern and classic children's paperbacks, for young readers and teens, and reference books, covering all ages.
Queens Road is situated just across the park from Leicester University, and has a pleasant alternative vibe, along with the usual mainstream outlets. Well worth a visit, for two other bookshops, a number of cool bars and cafes, computor repair and cake shops. We are conveniently flanked by a post office and Sainsbury's, and there are opticians, health shops, a jewellers, a pet supply shop and two chemists.
LOROS also have an amazing and very popular Media Shop, 'Spiral Scratch', at number 63, for vinyl, cd, dvd, second hand hi-fi separates and musical instruments: guitars, keyboards, flutes, drums, as and when available.
There is limited one hour parking on our side of the street and a few side roads with some restricted parking hours. Alternatively, why take a 20 minute stroll up pretty, historical New Walk, from the town centre, calling in at the fascinating New Walk Museum, or catch a 44 Arriva Bus from town or from the railway station on London Road, and be here in a matter of minutes!
