Item description from seller

First Edition. 8vo. Publisher's royal blue cloth with gilt titles to spine, slightly faded to spine cloth with a small patch of bleaching at the top. Page edges untrimmed, internally clean. Wrapped in a splendid spine faded dustwrapper in blue and purple. Light wear and creases to extremities of wrapper with some fraying at head of spine. A handsome copy of a now almost unknown book dealing with a conflict between two imaginary territories, both held by Englishmen, and the the war they fight. Montague died the year after this title was published having been staunchly anti-war his whole life, a viewpoint encouraged rather than invalidated by his stint on the Western Front, where, at age 49 it was only his enthusiasm to beat the enemy and go home that allowed him to stay on in the face of constant suggestions that he was too old to be in the trenches.
