About this Item
Quarter leather, red pebble-finish cloth-covered boards with gilt decoration and titles, darker red leather to spine strip, also with gilt titles. Marbled end papers, red-deckled page edges, illustrations. Richard Watts was a prominent citizen of Rochester in the time of Elizabeth I, and funded an almshouse for "six poor travellers who, not being rogues or proctors, may receive gratis for one night lodging, entertainment and fourpence each". It is unclear what a Proctor was in this context or what Richard Watts had against such people (or indeed what entertainment he had in mind). Condition: Boards a little knocked, spine strip unaccountably trimmed at the top, with the loss of 2 or 3 mm, otherwise sound and clean. Overall, a very nice copy. Seller Inventory # 1588

More InformationCOVID-19 UPDATE:
as Post Offices return to normal hours we can once again offer Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day as our Expedited Shipping option. We will continue to use a 3-day courier service for standard domestic deliveries. There continue to be delivery delays to countries outside the UK. Please bear this in mind when ordering; if you are in a hurry for your order PLEASE LET US KNOW so that we can discuss options.
Standard shipping terms:
Orders usually ship within 2 business days. Shipping costs quoted are for books weighing up to 2 Kg (4.48 lb) when packed. If your book order is heavier than this, I may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required. NOTE that I charge the same shipping cost to all EU countries, but the ABE system makes this rather difficult to set up; if you are ordering from an EU country not on the shipping costs list and so are charged the general International postage rate, I will refund the difference when processing your order.
