Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 287 pages; HC 1st edition. In original blind stamped green cloth. Lacking the top 3 inches of cloth from the spine, retining title lettering "Confinements at Pentonville Prison" in gilt mid-spine. Binding shaken; cloth splitting over the front hinge and board tenuous - holding by crash. Board tips bruised and bumped. Many pages unopened but those that were opened were done so carelessly with some margin tearing at top and front edges of some pages, especially so to the last several pages of the appendix at rear. Prior owner name crossed out on front flyleaf. Includes tables. Complete and clean copy that would benefit from rebacking and some minor paper mending to some roughly opened pages. Scarce study of prison methods and punishment. Good only thus. Seller Inventory # 31988
