Item description from seller

No, this is not a later reprint, not print-on-demand. Stamped in blue to first blank page "Surplus - 3 / Library of Congress Duplicate." Stamped over that stamping in red -- and similarly stamped to title page and last blank page: "Social Security Board / July 3 1942 / Library." Borrowers' card and its carbon are housed in a rather elegant trapezoidal manila pocket inside rear board; book appears never to have been "borrowed." Title page bears librarian's pencil "cataloguing" marks including "HT476 / .S7 / No. 35," which designation is picked up on a small paper label to upper corner front board. Boards and page edges nicely marbled in matching red patterns; spine is of plain red cloth. This is Bulletin 35 of the Committee on Studies in Social Aspects of the Depression, dated 1937 to title page. Gold gilt titles to spine are clear: "SSRC BUL 35 / CONSUMPTION IN THE DEPRESSION." Boards barely peeking through fabric at corners. After 5 pp. of front matter, the text occupies 86 pp. including bibliography and index, but book is approx. 200 pages -- second half of book is blank, as made. This is a sturdy early binding with neat black fabric tape supporting the hinges, apparently as made. Foreword begins on page "v," interesting for writing of the "depression of the early 1930s" in the past tense (in 1937 -- by many measures the WORST year of Roosevelt's Great Depression!) Author promises the complete list of 13 monographs in the series will appear on page "ii," but if there ever were front-matter pages numbered "i," "ii," "iii," and "iv," they are long gone. Reduced from $37. …
