This is is an 1880 SCARCE 1st edition copy of The Republican Manual: History, Principles, Early Leaders, Achievements of the Republican Party with Biographical Sketches of James A. Garfield and Chester A. Arthur by E.V. Smalley - an early book covering the newly founded US Republican Party (founded in 1854, only 26 years prior to book s publication) Published in New York City by American Book Exchange in original green cloth covered boards with gold and black decoration and lettering. 339 pages, including index. 6 3/8 x 4 3/4 Book is solidly bound with a cracking front hinge and a few first few pages holding tight but loosening, rear joint firm. Heavy rubbing, water damaged front board, soiling, bumped spine tips and corners. Front paste down has pencil writing, otherwise text is free of writing, marks, ex libris marks or stickers. Rubbed crown and heel of spine and corners. Age-toned pages and page ends, a few small tears and wrinkled pages.
