An exceptionally pleasing copy of this ground-breaking report on the state of education of the poor and disadvantaged in London, plus the recommendation that the State needed to do more to educate. It is interesting that, in giving some of the soi-disant 'Charitable Schools', a hammering on their income vs expenditure vs number of students educated vs number of poor children educated, that these schools still use the same arguments and defences today! Of particular importance is that, as all parliamentary records and papers were burned in the great fire that destroyed the Palace of Westminster in 1834, fresh copies of this report are RARELY available for purchase. Recently rebound in half leather. Marbled boards (scuffed, worn about the edges, but pleasing). The leather corners are much worn. The spine has five ridges, stamped gilt titling and lines (agreeably benign). The spine is clubbable, neat. The contents are particularly pleasing. Laid, watermarked paper. The pages are very clean, very clear, very confident, most healthy, wonderfully unhindered by any blemish or mark. A most excellent copy. fk.
