Item description from seller

Exploration of possible water supplies for the City of Brooklyn, New York State; sources under consideration were Ten Mile River, Ramapo and Walkill Rivers, Long Island. Cost was the issue in question, not supply. De Varona was an engineer with the city water department from 1882 until his retirement as Chief Engineer in 1914; Worthen was a busy engineer in New York & Massachusetts from 1838 until his death in 1897, frequently working on dams, mills and other hydraulic projects, but also iron work and building mechanicals, and the editing of a manual on technical drawing (he prepared many of the maps in this volume); this must have been one of his last projects. Includes 12 plates, mostly folding and in color, some quite large; 3 diagrams. Hardcover, full grey cloth, gilt titling. Light wear, some edge bumps, scratches, small stains, stamped ink number inside front cover (240 - a serial number?), presentation slip from Engineer de Varona pasted in, with ink name; a few short tears to folding maps. Text clean; 75 pages, tables, maps, charts. Size: 12" by 14¾".…
