Item description from seller

First edition, House of Representatives issue. Octavo. 583pp. Complete with 22 plates but missing four of the five folding maps. Half leather with marbled boards and gilt spine label. Some toning to the pastedown, tidemark to the edges of the first 60 pages and binding moderately rubbed with frayed corners, about very good. A government issued overview of two separate reports of Captain J.C. Fremont's exploration of the Rocky Mountain between 1842 and 1844. The party included the help of legendary frontiersman Christopher "Kit" Carson and proved immensely valuable of its highly accurate maps of routes for travel over the difficult-to-transverse mountain range. This copy has seen better days, and is unfortunately missing four maps, but is nevertheless an important record of an essential expedition that aided America's western expansion.
