About this Item
23.5 x 15.5 cm. Octavo. 189pp. Green cloth in dust jacket. Signed and inscribed by the author on front free endpaper. In additional to being signed by the author, laid in are 7 (!) hand written, fairly lengthy, signed letters by Boodin dating from the 1930's and 40's. All are addressed to the same previous owners: Geneste and William Anderson. Content of the letters consist of discussions of books, Christmas wishes and evidence of a long relationship. Previous owner's bookplate on front fixed endpaper. There is a stain to the front cover of jacket. From the dust jacket flap: Edgar S. Brightman: "Bodin. is one of America's ripest and most learned philosophers. In his new book he has presented, in beautiful poetic prose, free from technicalities, his confession of liberal and affirmative faith in the ideals of Jesus. Confessing that he has learned more from poets than from philosophers, he writes as a philosophers from whom poets may learn. Religion he views as the poetry of life, but poetry, like love, is for him a means of access to truth hidden from the mere scientist. Boodin never forgets that reason is judge of faiths. His reason leads him to choose faith in personality and eternal personal values against abstraction and impersonalism.". Seller Inventory # 58835
