This book was apparently presented by the author to evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr, who, however, did not sign his name, nor is there an author's inscription. Dr. Mayr wrote "Thanked, 26 Oct. 03" on the free front endpaper and made underlines on two pages (pp. 69 and 71, with the latter page having six underlines in the final paragraph of that chapter). At the time, Dr. Mayr was 99 years old and residing in an assisted living facility in Bedford, Massachusetts, where he would pass away about a year and a half later. 165 p., 8 p. of plates. Interesting provenance. [br 13].
