London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1922, First Edition. Full leather binding with gilt titles and decoration to the spines and blind stamped decoration to the boards. Stamped in gilt to the inside of the rear board &c and highly likely by one of the members of the Guild of Women Binders. Slightly rubbed and worn, a little cocked, a little foxed to the early pages, slightly strained to the gutter, but nevertheless a pretty example of bookbinding. Provenance: gift inscription to the title page To Gertis Wotherspoon (or Witherspoon) from her friend I.A.C. Xmas 1923 . Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gently worn, gilt titles and five raised bands. Joints good condition good. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition blind stamped leather, worn, marked, with the word Courage to the centre of the front board. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, all others gilt, one page standing proud but firmly attached. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition leather turn-ins, the initials B.C. to the rear turn in, patterned paper, tanned. End papers good condition tanned patterned paper.
