Bookplate on front endpapers indicating that this was a gift to Harvard College . Green pictorial cloth boards with a gold-stamped figure of a horse and rider, are rubbed through at corners, professionally stabilized and reinforced at spine ends and hinges. Charles Thomas Marvin (1854 -1890) was born in England but spent much of his youth in Russia. He became an expert on "the Russo-Indian Question, and published extensively on Russia's Great Game moves into Central Asia and the oil-producing regions around the Caspian. This book consists of summaries of the principal pioneering exploits in the region lying between the Caspian and India by European and Russian explorers.
