Add to basketThere are two main streams that flow to feed the great river of literature: the waters of one satisfy the thirst of the mind of man for knowledge, and the waters of the other satisfy the yearning of his heart for emotional pleasure. With these Random Thoughts I am attempting to serve both the mind and heart of man. From about my sixteenth year, sixty years back; I got into the habit of jotting down random thoughts that flashed through my brain if they happened to be striking by reason of significance or beauty of expression. Starting in the middle of 1924, I have accumulated more than 5,000 of these thoughts. These 2000 Random Thoughts are culled from the thousands I have recorded in my notebooks, and they have been typed and retyped more than five times till they were arrayed in the most appropriate raiment I could fashion for them. If at least a few people intellectually gifted are triggered to deep thinking, or derive aesthetic pleasure from reading these thoughts of mine, I shall be adequately compensated for the work I have done during six decades of my life.
