(with red main title)+ x + 354; 1944-dated gift label to fr. pastedown, some slight tanning to end-papers, probably inevitable given mid-war date of publication and paper quality available, tiny faint stamp '12.44' bottom verso rear end-paper, otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. Unclipped jacket in removable plastic protective sleeve as acquired, covers near fine but marred by loss of c.5.5 cm to top spine with loss of main title and a small horzontal chip across bottom. Apparently scarce. The author, the Royal Society's Treasurer, died before publication. 16 cm x 24 cm. Seller Inventory # 012777
