The Prince of Wales went on an East African Safari in 1930, in Kenya, Uganda, the Belgian Congo and the Sudan.
This book describes fully the part played by 7 twentyone sixty horsepower Wolseley Messenger cars, being the main transport for this safari. They covered 30,000 car miles, much of it straight through the bush - and needed two fan belts replacing, by way of maintenance.
My father was responsible for the transport for the safari, being then employed by Wolseley Motors.
The book includes a 59 page report by my father on the performance of the cars and the Safari itself, many of the photographs that he took and many of the documents from 1929 and 1930 relating to the organisation of the whole affair from start to finish.
Reading his report and the letters and telegrams is like looking over his shoulder as the safari proceeded.
He also gives detailed information about the preparations made, getting the cars ready and subsequently how they were returned to Mombasa after the safari ended at Juba in the Sudan. C.G.Sayer
