At over 5 kg and because of value not suitable for export as has to go airmail tracked and signed and insured. UK will have to go guaranteed insured. Hardcover. Condition: Very good +. first edition. 10 x 14 1/2 in. Paginated in sections. Scarlet cloth boards with gilt crest on cover, titles on spine. Text has full-pg color plates with tissue guards and numerous B&W plates. Condition is VERY GOOD+ ; covers are like near new with minor wear to the spine cloth. No shelf wear, extremely clean and fresh. Binding tight and text spotless. Slipcase is in the same scarlet color and is very good, with mild wear to edges, a few tiny spots, a bit scuffed on one side, top a little dented. Overall a very fine copy. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Massive gorgeous book. Full red leather with 5 raised bands on spine. A few small scuffs to spine, else fine. Slipcase is bright, some shelfwear, top seams just started to split but holding very strong. No international or priority shipping on this tome. folio, (9.75 x 14 inches. 25 x 35.5 cm), pagination: viii, 85, 76, 48, 63, 64, 75 pages, two photographs of King George V and King George VI as frontispieces, 12 colour plates, 16 monochrome plates (depicting albums, housing of the collection, and various album pages; printed on both sides) in the introduction part apart from 12 colour (depicting stamps and each protected by onionskin paper (Figure 6); printed on one side only) and 16 monochrome plates, with 48 monochrome plates of stamps and covers to catalogue section, bound in full red Nigerian morocco, stamped in gold with the Royal Coat of Arms on the front and the Tudor rose motif on the rear cover, gilt titled spine with raised bands. A fine bright clean copy in the original publisher's slipcase. LIMITED EDITION of 1,500 finely bound copies. Ex Libris Gary S. Ryan RDP FRPLS with his fine presentation label to slipcase. Gary Sidney Ryan was an eminent philatelist who specialised in the stamps and postal history of Hungary and later in revenue stamps. Ryan was awarded the Crawford Medal of the Royal Philatelic Society London in 1988 for his work on the cancellations of Hungarian Post Offices on the first stamps of Hungary and he signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1980. His philatelic writing won him a rarely awarded Grand Prix award for Literature at Frankfurt in 1989. With Robson Lowe and Ronald Butler, Ryan was one of the founders of The Revenue Society of Great Britain in 1990. Published in late 1952 and winner of The Crawford Medal in 1953, this is the most luxurious and beautiful philatelic book of all time. The book consists of two parts: (a) introduction narrating the story of the royal collection followed by the (b) catalogue of the collection. The catalogue comprises of five sections for Great Britain, British America, British Africa, British Asia, and British Australasia. The Royal Philatelic Collection was edited by Clarence Winchester and authored by Sir John Wilson, Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection from 1938 to 1969 as well as the President of The Royal Philatelic Society London from 1934 to 1940 and again from 1949 to 1950. First edition, deluxe issue. Publisher's full red morocco, with the royal crest in gilt on the front board and five raised bands, gilt lettering and Tudor rose stamps to the spine and back board. Top edge gilt. Housed in a red cloth slipcase. A fine copy. Extensively illustrated with two collotypes of King George V & VI, twelve colour photographic plates with tissue guards, eight pages of monographs and forty-eight illustrations in a catalogue at rear. A finely illustrated history of the postage stamp collection of the British Royal Family as well as a detailed catalogue, arranged geographically by British territories on different continents. The Royal collection is held at St James' Palace in London, this catalogue of the collection being prepared by Sir John Wilson who was the president of the Royal Philatelic Society and known as the 'keeper' until 1969. Sir John was integral to the introduction of coloured albums that preserved the stamps and letters. He also led the resurrection of exhibitions and loans to museums after World War II.
