First Sandby Edition. in contemporary red morocco, some light wear to extremities, elaborate gilt border to the covers, spines gilt in compartments, very slightly darkened, two black labels on each volume lettered and numbered in gilt, marbled endpapers and gilt and gauffered edges, with the ownership inscription of W.W. Pulman, 1845. 12mo (145 x 85 mm), pp. [iv], vi, [iv], 156; [ii], 157-396, with 35 numbered engraved plates, no. 1 placed as frontispiece to the first volume, title-pages printed in red and black, engraved medallion on each title-page, the list of plates printed on two leaves following the dedication, some light browning, A beautiful copy of Sandby?s glorious illustrated edition of Horace, with 35 numbered engraved plates throughout the text, in a beautiful contemporary red morocco binding. ?I have always considered this work as a very pleasing and respectable production, and in point of accuracy preferable to its rival, the edition of Pine.The plates are numerous, and many of them conceived and executed with great taste?
