Review
"Whittemore treats his subjects genially and kindly, but without missing a critical trick. His book is full of illuminations, anecdotal and aphoristic, about the largely unexamined idea of character, public and private, and I read it with much delight." -- Howard Nemerov
"Mr. Whittemore is right most of the time and interesting all the time... Biography is a troubled genre -- but, as this book testifies brilliantly, a fascinating one." -- Washington Times

Store description
I started selling used books in 1985 in Davis, California, and online in 1998. I enjoy the process of using language to fully describe the advantages and blemishes of each book. Language can capture details that a photograph might miss, but if you are visually-oriented, I am happy to send a photo--please include your phone number, since it is easier to send a picture via text than email. I am of "mature" years, but will continue to sell books as long as I am able: I enjoy it too much! I am a mere temporary custodian, sending each book to its ultimate shelf--the one where it is appreciated the most.…
