Add to basketCambridge: John Wilson and Son, 1904. 8vo, 21 p., original brown wraps. First edition of this scarce pamphlet on what would have been America's first note issuing bank. The notes would have been backed by private land in Massachusetts, but the governor invalidated all of the land titles and so the initiative was aborted. The case became an example of how absolutism's disregard for property rights impeded economic development. Stitch marks and tearing along spine, with call numbers to front wrap and blind stamp to title page, but an otherwise sound copy. OCLC locates 11 copies.
