Promoting Community Mental Health presents tools and strategies that local organizers, leaders, health workers, faith groups, and community members have developed to combat the mental health crisis.
Stories from across the US demonstrate how to better understand, respond to, and move toward healing the challenges to emotional health in our communities. The key to creating better mental health lies in challenging discrimination, building equality, improving neighborhoods, and engaging people at all stages of life. Inside you’ll find information on:
- building networks to strengthen resilience and reduce stress
- utilizing traditional knowledge and community structures to maintain mental health
- supporting people who have experienced or are living with trauma
- identifying and addressing situations that require intense treatment
- preventing, preparing for, and deescalating mental health crises
- responding to violence in its many forms and mobilizing to prevent it
- creating organizational support for mental health promotion
Reinforced by understanding how mental, physical, and community health are intimately bound together, Promoting Community Mental Health provides support, new ideas, and hope as you chart ways forward in a challenging time.
