This book is a self-contained text with required theory and five and fully documented programs for the linear elastic analysis and eigenvalue problem solution of 2-D skeletal structures like pin-jointed trusses, rigid-jointed frames and plane grids. It will overcome the difficulty of converting the theory of structural analysis to computer programs and will enhance the appreciation of the unity, versatility and power of the stiffness method of structural analysis. Great care has been taken to provide readable programs and this is achieved by choosing the names for variables so as to make them immediately recognisable; avoiding too many intermediate variables; breaking the program into a series of sub-routines which correspond to the 'natural' steps of the stiffness method; and discussing in detail the mathematical equations used in a particular sub-routine, the logic of the sub-routine and the special variable names associated in chapters which correspond to the steps of the stiffness method.
