1950 REPRINT of the First Edition. Original gray cloth with black title patch front cover and spine with gilt lettering. The book has USA Armed Forces stamp on blank FFEP and on front pastedown otherwise no marks on book inside or outside, darkening to spine, rubbing at corners, front inside hinge cracked open but hinge is strong and not loose (nowhere close to breaking), no foxing, solid binding, no writing or pen marks on pages. The book measures 258mm tall x 173mm and has 497 pages, 25 b/w photos, many maps & diagrams, 1 folding color map, index. A special collection of 32 papers describing the final objectives for polar exploration. Each chapter is prefaced by short biography of its author. Authors include Nansen, A.P. Coleman, Knud Rasmussen, Stefansson, Mawson, R. Priestly, Byrd, Ellesworth, Nobile (on airships), etc. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED. Seller Inventory # 004457
