Item description from seller

A smart first edition of this charming novel following a rich writer, from Scottish author Muriel Spark. First edition. Harvey Gotham lives in a small cottage on the grounds of an empty Chateau in France where he is writing a book about Job. Periodically, he travels to Epinal Museum to view Job Taunted by his Wife by Georges de La Tour. Strangely Harvey's wife Effie, who he left a year ago, looks strikingly similar to Job's wife in the painting. Written by Dame Muriel Sarah Spark, a Scottish novelist, short story writer, poet and essayist. In the original leatherette binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small handling mark. Very Good Indeed.
