Covers show age darkening with a slight curl to the front cover. Interior shows occasional foxing, penciled ownership, stamped ownership "The Britten Memorial", occasional pencilled markings which are very unusual which carry some additional meanings. The Britten Memorial refers to Emma Hardinge Britten (1823-1899) a psychic medium and spiritualist, born in London, who came to the United States and befriended the Fox Sisters, who were known for their communications with spirits through table-tapping.
