Not to be confused with the World War Two-era author. Account of life in the Andersonville prison camp by a soldier in Company K of the 20th Illinois Volunteers, captured at Atlanta with nine of his fellows on July 22nd, 1864; the Co. K boys were exchanged and sent to Florence, South Carolina, from which the author and others briefly escaped by swapping uniforms with some young Rebs, escaped again but were again recaptured, sent to Saulsbury, and finally escaped for good, reaching the recently captured Wilmington after about seven months of captivity. Laid in is a letter from the publisher to a fellow publisher, explaining that the original was found in the publisher's great-grandfather's library, the great-grandfather having also been in an Illinois regiment. Stapled pamphlet, blue covers, white titling. Light wear, minor staining, couple of pages dog-eared. Text clean; 27 pages. Size: 8½" by 9½". Seller Inventory # p1084
