A fine copy of the first printing. *** "The lives and works of thirty-two artists who have chosen printmaking as their major means of creative expression are brought together in this stunning volume. All of the artists included in Printmaking are 'self-published' in that they print their own images in editions of fewer than fifty impressions or they execute works that are one-of-a-kind in nature. In every case, the artist is responsible for the entire process -- from conceptualization to design, production, and eventual distribution. Each printmaker is spotlighted in a separate chapter. These chapters present an overview of the artists lives, a statement about their aesthetic intent, an explanation of the techniques used in their work, and black and white as well as color reproductions of their prints. Some of the artists have been involved in printmaking for years; some are in mid-career, and several are recent MFA graduates. In all cases, the artists have exhibited a strong expertise, commitment, and a reverence for the print tradition. Various processes employed by the artists, such as lithography, intaglio, paper-making, silkscreen, and collagraphy, represent the different techniques, styles, use of media, and attitudes toward the production of prints. By incorporating written statements from all of the individuals featured in this publication, E. C. Cunningham has enabled the individuals to speak for themselves, effectively capturing their knowledge and their unique personalities. Printmaking is geared toward all those interested in fine art, including artists, museum curators, gallery directors, and university art students and faculty." - Publisher. Size: 4to.
