Page 229 torn, but is complete. 404 pages. John Bascom was president of the University of Wisconsin (UW) from 1874 to 1887, during which time this book was printed. John Bascom's later (1878) textbook Comparative Psychology is the earliest American work to use that title, and its theistic approach anticipates some arguments found in much later evolutionary works. Provenance: Bears owner signature of Charles Richard van Hise (1857 - 1918), an American geologist and academic, an undergraduate at UW when this book was printed.
