Hardcover. VG. George Routledge & Sons, New York 1869. First American. 200 pp, followed by 8 of publishers ads. Spine shows some sun fading, gilt title, author, publisher clear and intact. Shelf wear most notable at head and tail; Boards terracotta with blind stamped title/author both front and back, surrounded with a patterned design, borders double ruled; FFL bears some pencilled annotations of previous book dealer as well as name of prior owner in ink script John E. Libby Tufts 11 along with rubber-stamped date May 13 1911. Half-title. Tissue guarded title page also includes light pencilled annotation. Opposite title page is intact fold out B/W art work, illustrator Bonomi, illustration is said within text to have derived from an Egyptian Tomb in Nubia from the reign of Ramses II. Text block is clean square and intact, pages flow freely, some gapping appears at signatures. George John Douglas Campbell, was the 8th Duke of Argyll. Jospeh Bonomi the younger was a well known artist, sculptor, and egyptologist whose work accompanied many of the scholarly/exploratory British expeditions in the Arab world during the first half of the 19th century.
