First British edition and printing. In very good plus pale grey paper covered boards and black cloth spine, with silver titles. The boards are tight, straight and clean; very slightly shelf-cocked. Unmarked black end papers. The text block is very firm and even, lightly tanned cut edges and Prelims and page edges. No dedications etc. In good off-white dust jacket with red and black arrows and red and black titles to front. The jacket is a little grubby; slightly edge-worn, with tiny open and closed tears. Not price clipped. In removable protective sleeve.

About the Author

Erving Goffman was born in Canada in 1922. He received his B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1945 and then studied at the University of Chicago, receiving his M.A. in 1949 and his Ph.D. in 1953. For a year he lived on one of the smaller of the Shetland Isles while he gathered material for a dissertation on that community, and later he served as a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Mental Health in Washington. Mr. Goffman is the author of several articles and book reviews which have appeared in such periodicals as Psychiatry and the American Journal of Sociology. He is also the author of, among other works, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Asylums, Interaction Ritual, and Stigma

Our Bookshop is in Copse Road in Clevedon and is open every day, seven days a week, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. The Bookshop Co-operative comprises nearly 650 members from around the world and was set up to stop the only second-hand bookshop in our town from closing.
