Translation of Praxis Medicinae Theorica et Empirica Familiarissima (the earliest Latin edition I have identified was in 1579). "One of the most popular English therapeutic works in the middle of the seventeenth century was Walter Bruell's 'Praxis Medicinae or the Physician's Practice,'. . . . This work, written in the previous century by Gautier Bruele (fl. 1560) had changed very little with the passage of time. . . . Purges, sternutatories, masticatories, and the cautery were still the lot of the unfortunate patients" (Mettler, History of Medicine, p. 372).
