A classic gardening handbook written by Helena Rutherfurd Ely. It contains a wealth of information and simple instructions on gardening, covering everything from preparatory details and equipment, to planting and propagating a range of common and uncommon garden plants. Helena Rutherfurd Ely was an American author and gardener who co-founded the Garden Club of America, responsible for publishing three very influential books that moved away from Victorian style gardens in favor of more informal gardening. One of Martha Stewart's favorite, first landscape planning reference books. Pictorial boards, gilt lettering to spine and front panel. Top edge gilt. Light foxing to endpapers. The scarce dust-jacket is present but has foxing and the bottom half of the spine is chipped. Chips also to the corners and edges of the rest of the dust-jacket. Boards are in near fine condition. First Edition. 5�" - 8".
