Includes List of Other Books by Mark Levin; Author Dedication; Epilogue and Notes. "Many have written about and debated the issue of power - including the ancients and modern philosophers, scholars, and statesmen alike. Why? Because power determines your social arrangements, quality of life, and more to the point of this book, whether you are free or enslaved or some degree of either. In short, it determines your personal fate, the fate of your community, and the fate of a nation. So much in life orbits around this word, idea, belief - power. This book is intended to provoke a better comprehension of what is meant by power, its impact on the individual and mankind generally, and stimulate a broader examination and dialoge about its applications. In doing so, and if it succeeds even modestly, perhaps it will prove an additional source for liberty and against tyranny." - an excerpt from On Power from the rear outer jacket. "Following in the footsteps of thinkers like Alexis de Tocqueville and Frederic Bastiat, eight-time New York Times bestselling author Mark R. Levin examines the role of power in our lives, society, and government - the philosophical and the practical. Levin takes the reader on a journey from the earliest civilizations to the modern republics of the West, where power has been used to liberate and oppress. To reward and to exploit. To build and to destroy. Where others have focused on liberty and rights as the core to understanding human nature, Levin argues that power determines the manner and extent to which both are manifested in one's life and society generally, and the character of the law and government in which people either flourish or suffer. Levin divides power into positive power and negative power; the former is used in service to mankind, while the latter is used in service to man's rulers. On Power is a searing and masterful analysis by Mark R. Levin, one of the pre-eminent conservative and constitutional thinkers of our time. He takes the reader intriguingly and compellingly through ancient history, American history, philosophy, psychology, current events, and more, as he searches for the meaning, purpose, and application of power and unravels its central role on the human condition." - from the inner front jacket flap. …

Store description
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
