BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. The catalogue for a major traveling exhibition exploring Post-Impressionist painting and first held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, November 17, 1979 - March 16, 1980. The Royal Academy gathered examples of work by Cezanne, van Gogh, Gauguin, Seurat, and others from the holdings of major museums but also drew on private collections and the more out-of-the-way public collections around the world. "So dazzled have we become by the achievements of the major figures working in France that we have tended to scant the complex and fascinating context of artistic experimentation that characterizes this fecund period, not only in France but in countries across Europe and in the United States. This exhibition is the first in which that context has been so comprehensively examined." This catalogue has become an art-historical reference work with 428 works discussed, illustrated, and annotated. Essays by John House, MaryAnne Stevens, Norman Rosenthal, Gillian Perry, Anna Gruetzner, Sandra Berresford, and Joop Joostens; introduction by Alan Bowness; foreword by Hugh Casson. 303 pages; color plates + b&w text illustrations throughout; 8.5 x 11 inches. List of lenders, chronology, bibliography, index of artists. LAID-IN is the 4-page gallery brochure with an annotated map of the exhibition. Due to size and weight, international and expedited shipping will be more than quoted.…
