Item description from seller

1st printing. 8vo. Dark grey paper-covered boards decorated in silver. xvi, 320pp., with a yellow ribbon bookmark bound in and purple endpapers. Illustrated. 'Since 1979 the British government has worked to restore Britain to its Victorian state, so Alasdair Gray has at last shrugged off his post-modernist label and written an up-to-date nineteenth-century novel.' Very Good, gently bumped around the spine ends and with an occasional mild mark, in like jacket, moderately rubbed primarily at the head edge and the base of the spine, and with a couple of scratches, the spine with the fading that is often encountered and a tiny pock where it meets the upper panel. Loosely inserted is a cutting from 2024 concerning Yorgos Lanthimos and his film of the book, starring Emma Stone.

Store description

Test Centre Books is an online seller of printed and archival materials, particularly books and periodicals. Founded in 2014, we specialise in the British Poetry Revival, the Mimeograph Revolution, and linguistically innovative poetry, although we retain an interest in the underground arts in general. Twice a year we issue a catalogue of new acquisitions, often devoted to the work of a single author. More information is available on our website.
