Includes an uncredited biographical sketch, plus a dedicatory letter and preface by the author. Bound in full tan calf, gilt-stamped and decorated spine, covers bordered in gilt, gilt inner dentelles, blue/gray marbled endpapers. Slight wear to head and foot of spine; slight rubbing to extremities; previous owner's engraved bookplate on front attached endpaper; slight uniform internal browning and/or foxing. Broome (1689-1745); English scholar and translator, best known for his versions of Homer (sometimes in collaboration); LL.D. (1728); rector of Oakley Magna and vicar of Eye, Suffolk; also chaplain to Lord Cornwallis.Engraved Title Page (with Frontispiece portrait).
