Complete 12 volume set. Half dark green crushed morocco leather bindings with green cloth boards (by Worrall of Birmingham). Spines ornately decorated in gilt, with three raised bands. Double gilt fillet to leather edges on boards. Top page edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Fading and light rubbing to spines. Rubbing to ends of spines and corners of boards. Browning and light scoring to outer page edges. Good solid bindings with no cracking to joints. The first William Turner illustrated edition, issued shortly after Scott's death. Engraved frontis and title page to each volume with tissue guard. Foxing to engravings and guards. Text has light browning to margins, otherwise clean throughout. The set differs from others we have seen, the engraved title pages contain the vignette and imprint, but omit the printed title and volume number. An important edition, in attractive early 20th century bindings. Overall condition is Very Good.
