Loosely inserted is 4pp. prospectus for a lecture by Dr. Gioia Gaidoni and Dr. Ethna Byrne Costigan at the Italian Institute. The title page is SIGNED BY THE POET. Published by the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin on the occasion of the visit to Ireland of the poet Salvatore Quasimodo, February, 1963. The poems have been translated into Irish by Ethna Byrne Costigan and Mairin and Cearbhall O Dalaigh, and into English by G.H. McWilliam, Jennifer McWilliam, Ulick O'Connor and Lorna Reynolds. Salvatore Quasimodo (1901-1968) was a Sicilian novelist and poet. In 1959 he won the Nobel Prize in Literature "for his lyrical poetry, which with classical fire expresses the tragic experience of life in our own times" Along with Giuseppe Ungaretti and Eugenio Montale, he was one of the foremost Italian poets of the 20th century.
