Item description from seller

vii, [2], 10-152pp. Original publisher's decorated red cloth, lettered in gilt. A trifle rubbed, spine marked and sunned, red ink-stain to lower edge.Later bookplate of Thomas Brayshaw to FEP, endpapers browned, else internally clean and crisp. The sole edition of the only published work, with a juvenile operetta, of Yorkshire-based poet Harry Harrison, of whom little is known. Provincially printed by J. W. Lambert of Settle, the collection commences with a prefatory remark in which the author states that the poems are 'entirely the work of my teens, the Prize Poem, which I wrote this year [1887], being the only exceptive composition'. In addition to the aforementioned prize poem (on the Jubilee of Queen Victoria), the rather simplistic, naive, verses include an epitaph to Keats and a juvenile operetta in four parts 'Golden Hair and the Three Bears'; a rollicking retelling of Southey's beloved fairy tale to be sung predominantly by a chorus of children. Size: 8vo.

Store description

Established 2007, Antiquates Ltd is an Antiquarian bookseller with a large, custom built shop in the heart of the Dorset countryside. We sell fine and rare books from our Wareham shop, in catalogues, and via our website (www.antiquates.co.uk). Specialising in early printed books both English and Continental, fine English Literature, and books by, for, and about Women and Children, we nevertheless stock a wide range of works on paper from 1500-present - including modern first editions. Our bias is towards the unusual, the interesting and the important - and always have a good stock of rare books by local authors such as T.E. Lawrence and Thomas Hardy; we are just the place if you're looking for an extra-special gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary or graduation. (Open Wednesday - Saturday, 10am-4pm)…
